First Fridays-China Adoption Journey has chosen to support the Heartbridge Pediatric Rehabilitation Unit; a project which provides Special Care for Fragile Children. An 9 bed unit for pre- and postoperative children was created to help kids build strength and foster healing before and after heart surgery. In the summer of 2006, some of the Love Without Boundaries (LWB) staff began to discuss that some of the kids either preparing for surgeries or recovering from them were not at their best physically. Some kids were underweight, had chronic infections or needed a higher level of care than could possibly be provided back at their orphanage homes. We always want to get the best outcome possible for every child. Thankfully, as often happens at LWB, when we began to think about how to get those best outcomes, an opportunity quickly presented itself, and the Heartbridge Pediatric Rehabilitation Unit was begun.
Through a partnership with the Hope Foster Home (HFH) in Beijing and working with the entire LWB medical staff, referrals will be sent to the Heartbridge Coordinator who will then assign children to available beds.
LWB's goal is to help Heartbridge kids have their surgeries with the results they deserve so that they can prepare for healthy lives, hopefully with adoptive families. Since its opening in October, 2006, we've already seen the success that Heartbridge can provide.
We asked if you wanted to support this project and by the response on December 7th it was an overwhelming “yes”! Our goal is to have an annual sustaining fund to support a crib, and so far we are off to a “huge” start.
There will be two ways to give. There will be a basket at every First Friday where you can drop your donation in or you can send a check made payable to Love Without Boundaries and mail to c/o Dan and Susan Chapman, 6334 Howell Cobb Court, Acworth, GA 30101. Each month following First Friday we will send the donations directly to LWB for our crib donation. Download Giving Form Here
We want to pull together as a community of adoptive families to support this ministry. We will post a monthly report on our website from LWB about the children who have been in "our crib" and how they are doing. We will be supporting "crib #18". Please pray specifically for the children who will be in that crib and of course all the orphaned children in the world. Thank you so much for your support. We can make a difference because “each child counts”.
